Overview

This course is designed for both incoming and current Academy students, providing an opportunity to get a head start on math learning, continue progress from the previous school year, or focus on credit recovery. MathLAB offers courses in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, allowing students to learn at their own pace. Pre-Calculus is also offered, but only for IAA students previously enrolled in accelerated Pre-Calculus MathLAB who have not completed their Pre-Calculus requirements by the end of the school year. Students attend live Zoom sessions with their teacher three times a week. Each session lasts five hours, and students are required to participate for at least one hour. During this time, they can ask questions, take exams, or work on their math assignments to ensure they stay engaged and on track.

Unlike traditional in-person summer math programs, which often involve 3 to 4 hours of daily instruction over 4 to 8 weeks, mathLAB emphasizes flexibility and personalized progress. To maximize the program’s effectiveness, students are encouraged to complete independent work outside of the Zoom sessions. This ensures continuous progress and a stronger grasp of the material. Students can select either a four-week or six-week program based on their needs. Whether they wish to get ahead, catch up, or recover credit, mathLAB offers a custom-tailored learning experience to help students succeed.

Additional Information

Below is a list of practical materials and resources you’ll need to have for our class: 

  • Good internet connection 
  • Any electronic device (not a phone) that has access to the internet such as a computer, tablet or iPad
  • Make sure your device is charged before class begins 
  • Note-taking materials such as pencil and paper or a reliable computer.
  • Phone or other device to send copies of exam solutions.

Enrolled IAA students should have their IAA Google account established prior to the first day of class.

We will send the Zoom Link a few days before class is scheduled to begin.

Amanda Baumann is the current MathLAB teacher at ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a focus on education from Cal Poly Humboldt and has been a valued member of the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ community for the past three years. In addition to teaching, she also serves as a dorm parent on campus. A proud mother, Amanda brings care, patience, and dedication into every aspect of her work. She especially enjoys teaching MathLAB for the opportunity it provides to connect with students one-on-one and to meet them where they are in their learning.


High school age students (grades 9-12): Types of students we might see are listed below.

  • Students who are not returning, but need to finish their current math level to move on at their new school.
  • Incoming Freshman / new students of other grade levels
  • Any students currently enrolled in ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥
  • Possibly Seniors of the 2026 class who need to finish graduation requirements
